A client was pleased with the work S&ST had provided in the past for an ongoing geolocation project and asked for additional help on some advanced pulse detection methods.

Moving "bent pipe" or even regenerative repeaters introduce Doppler and stretching effects. This can be particularly troublesome with certain types of pulsed signals. Further complexity is introduced when trying to match 2 signals to produce a geolocation estimate.

S&ST provided the needed support to address these problems. Simulation and Modeling of the system was performed using MATLAB for clarity. Recommendations were than made for changes in the C code of the client's geolocation software.

We were able to produce algorithms and software to obtain the non-corrupted frequency and times of the 2 pulses. From these we could then obtain the actual time/frequency differences of arrival which in turn produce a valid geolocation estimate. Some of the specific items addressed included:

  • ARMA techniques
  • CW and Pulsed Signals
  • Decomposition and Reconfiguration of the FFT for Fast Multiresolution
  • Dyadic and Quartic time-sequential data sets
  • Efficient Filtering (including resampling)
  • Ionospheric Propagation
  • Matched Filtering
  • Multirate Conversion
  • Polyphase Filtering
  • Sequential Shifting (to provide scale/time benefits of wavelets with less smearing)
  • Sonar and Acoustics techniques
  • Spectral Leakage
  • Split-Radix and Prime Factor Transforms
  • Wavelets and Multiresolution
Along with ongoing faxes of significant findings, a final report with text and graphics was provided. Magnetic media was also sent to the client for inclusion of graphics or text in their own reports. Company representatives expressed satisfaction with the effort and the client awarded us further contracts. With prior permission, they may be contacted by you regarding their satisfaction with the services of S&ST.
